The President of India is an integral part of the Parliament though he/she is not a member of either House of Parliament. Under the Constitution, the executive power of the Union is vested in the President to be exercised by him/her either directly or through officers subordinates to him/her. The executive power of the Union is co-extensive with the legislative power of Parliament, and Parliament consists of the President and the two Houses of Parliament to be known respectively as the Council of States, Rajya Sabha and the House of the People, the Lok Sabha. Thus, on the one hand, President is the head of the Executive and on the other; he/she is a constituent part of Parliament. This represents a real fusion of the highest executive and legislative authorities. In terms of the Constitution, as also in actual practice, the relationship between the Executive and the Legislature is one that is most intimate and ideally does not admit of any antagonism or dichotomy.

Council of States i.e Rajya Sabha is the Upper House of the Indian Parliament. Rajya Sabha consists of the representatives of the States and the Union Territories and persons nominated by the President of India. The Vice-President of India is the ex-officio Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha also chooses from amongst its Members, a Deputy Chairman. In the absence of the Chairman, Deputy Chairman presides.

काउंसिल ऑफ स्टेट्स   अर्थात् राज्य सभा भारतीय संसद का उच्च सदन है। राज्य सभा में राज्यों और संघ राज्य क्षेत्रों के प्रतिनिधिगण तथा भारत के राष्ट्रपति द्वारा नामनिर्देशित व्यक्ति होते हैं। भारत के उपराष्ट्रपति राज्य सभा के पदेन सभापति होते हैं। राज्य सभा अपने सदस्यों में से एक उपसभापति का भी चयन करती है। सभापति की अनुपस्थिति में उपसभापति सभा की अध्यक्षता करते हैं।

As per the provision of Article 79 of Indian Constitution, the House of the People, the Lok Sabha is the lower House of the parliament. Lok Sabha is composed of representatives of the people chosen by direct election on the basis of the adult suffrage. The maximum strength of the House envisaged by the Constitution is 552. As Per Article 81 of the Constitution, Subject to the provisions of article 331 ,the House of the People shall consist of— (a) not more than five hundred and thirty members chosen by direct election from territorial constituencies in the States, and (b) not more than [twenty members] to represent the Union territories, chosen in such manner as Parliament may by law provide. The Lok Sabha (Lower house of the People) was duly constituted for the first time on 17 April 1952 after the first General Elections held from 25 October 1951 to 21 February 1952. At present, the strength of the House is 543. The term of the Lok Sabha, unless dissolved, is five years from the date appointed for its first meeting. However, while a proclamation of emergency is in operation, this period may be extended by Parliament by law for a period not exceeding one year at a time and not extending in any case, beyond a period of six months after the proclamation has ceased to operate.

भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद 79 के प्रावधान के अनुसार, लोक सभा, लोकसभा संसद का निचला सदन है। लोकसभा वयस्क मताधिकार के आधार पर प्रत्यक्ष चुनाव द्वारा चुने गए लोगों के प्रतिनिधियों से बनी है। संविधान द्वारा परिकल्पित सदन की अधिकतम संख्या 552 है। संविधान के अनुच्छेद 81 के अनुसार, अनुच्छेद 331 के प्रावधानों के अधीन, लोक सभा में निम्न शामिल होंगे- (ए) चुने गए पांच सौ तीस सदस्यों से अधिक नहीं राज्यों में प्रादेशिक निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों से सीधे चुनाव द्वारा, और (बी) केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों का प्रतिनिधित्व करने के लिए [बीस सदस्यों] से अधिक नहीं, इस तरह से चुना गया जैसा कि संसद कानून द्वारा प्रदान कर सकती है। 25 अक्टूबर 1951 से 21 फरवरी 1952 तक हुए पहले आम चुनावों के बाद 17 अप्रैल 1952 को पहली बार लोकसभा (लोगों का निचला सदन) का विधिवत गठन किया गया था। वर्तमान में, सदन की संख्या 543 है। लोकसभा, जब तक भंग न हो, अपनी पहली बैठक के लिए नियत तारीख से पांच वर्ष है। हालाँकि, जब आपातकाल की घोषणा लागू होती है, तो इस अवधि को संसद द्वारा कानून द्वारा एक समय में एक वर्ष से अधिक की अवधि के लिए बढ़ाया जा सकता है और किसी भी मामले में, उद्घोषणा के बंद होने के बाद छह महीने की अवधि से आगे नहीं बढ़ाया जा सकता है।
