Orientation Programme for Members of Legislative Assembly

The first Orientation Programme for Members of Legislative Assembly was conducted for the Hon'ble Members of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1981 which was inaugurated by the then Hon'ble Speaker, Lok Sabha, Dr. Bal Ram Jakhar. The programme was the first of its kind which provided the Hon'ble Members with an opportunity to exchange ideas with Union Ministers, Hon'ble Members of Parliament, Senior officers of the Parliament Secretariat on recent developments in parliamentary practices and procedures. The aim of this programme is to familiarize newly elected Hon'ble Members with the working of the Parliament and to promote profound knowledge and appreciation of the Parliament's constitutional role, and its position as the supreme representative institution. The programme also lays stress on acquainting the Hon'ble Members with the operational mechanisms, parliamentary traditions, conventions, and etiquette.

Capacity Building Programmes for Members of Parliament

The Capacity Building Programme is a T prerequisite for enhancement of quality of interventions and debates in the Lok Sabha through exposure to knowledge and information in a rapidly changing world, and it is not just one programme, but a plethora of programmes which are designed to benefit the Hon'ble Members of Parliament. PRIDE (erstwhile PRIDE) has been at the helm of affairs in organizing such parlances since its inception in 1976, and has been striving to improve and expand the catalogue of programmes. Lecture Series for Members

Since 17 August 2005, the PRIDE has been organizing a series of Lectures by experts on subjects of topical interest for the benefit of Members of Parliament. The main objective of this Lecture Series is to help the members gain valuable insights into the subjects under discussion. The Lectures are organized on contemporaneous themes, which help members in comprehending the problems in a more effective way. Experts from diverse fields, including from various international bodies, have shared their views with the elected representatives under the Lecture Series which has been very well received by the Members of Parliament.

Seminars and Workshops

The PRIDE organizes Seminars and specialized Workshops for parliamentarians as well as parliamentary officials on various topics of parliamentary interest with a view to promoting better appreciation of the subject. Seminars on topics of current importance in areas of political, economic and social development, which will help the legislators in acquiring a deeper and broader understanding of complex national and global issues, are organized from time to time. In the past, the PRIDE has organized Seminars/Workshops on various topics, viz. Social Legislation and Problems of its Implementation; Privileges of the Legislatures and their Members; Legislature and Planning; Role and Functions of Legislators inside and outside the Legislature; Financial Accountability of the Executive to the Legislature, etc.

Round Table Discussions

Round Table Discussions are organized by the PRIDE from time to time on issues of parliamentary relevance involving various stakeholders. Two such Round Table Discussions on “Strengthening Parliamentary Democracy” were held on 4 September 2008 and 1 November 2008 in which parliamentarians, jurists, academics, media persons, captains of industry, civil society activists and others shared their perspectives on the theme.

Computer Awareness Programmes

Remarkable advancements in Information and Communication Technologies have come to impact the role and functions of the Parliament and its members as well. In order to assist the parliamentarians in discharging effectively their duties such as constituency management functions, office automation activities, personal information management, communication with State Legislatures and other organizations, access of Internet and e-mail, etc., Computer Awareness Programmes are organized by the PRIDE to enable them to make the optimum use of computer facilities which are provided to them by the Secretariat. Professionals from the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and other experts in the field of Information and Communication Technologies are associated with imparting computer skills to the members. The PRIDE has state-of-the-art facilities in its Computer Lab where members and their personal staff are given hands-on training. Officers and Staff of the Lok Sabha Secretariat are also provided computer training at the PRIDE for effective disposal of official work.

International & National days of importance

In a bid to hold hands with the world in creating and raising awareness, under the guidance of the Hon'ble Speaker. Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, PRIDE organised and celebrated International days of prominence such as, International Women's Day, International Yoga Day, International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, Sensitisation programme on Tuberculosis Day, World Day against Child Labour, Awareness programme on World Hepatitis Day. Six international days have been celebrated to date which were attended by more than 2000 participants.

Indian and foreign language programmes

PRIDE added yet another dimension to its scope and potential with the introduction of language courses in compliance with the direction of Hon'ble Speaker, Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla. PRIDE organized 30 hour online Indian and Foreign Language programmes from 22 June 2021 in all the 22 Indian languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, and six foreign languages namely, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, as well as, English. The language course is intended principally for the Hon'ble Members of Parliament from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. In addition, legislators from all the States and Union Territories and officials also joined the courses. The web link(s) were also shared with Indian Embassies and High Commissions all over the world so that their officials could also join these online classes.

Hindi language programmes

Hindi Learning Programme is organized for Hon'ble Members of Parliament belonging to non Hindi speaking States of the country in coordination with Central Hindi Training Institute. Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs. PRIDE has organized four programmes for the non-Hindi speaking Hon'ble Members of Parliament.
