FLOOD PRONE LAND AREA IN NER

Will the Minister of WATER RESOURCES be pleased to
state:
(a) the area of land in the States of North
Eastern Region bearing impact of flood, State- wise;
(b) the name of the districts in the NER
declared as flood prone, State-wise;
(c) whether Government proposes to include
more districts as flood prone;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the financial assistance and funds
utilized given to the NER States during the last three years and
the current year, Statewise?

(a) The Rashitrya Barh Ayog (RBA) assessed the flood prone area in the country
in 1980. Subsequently, the Working Group for XI plan on Water Resources considered
the flood prone area based on the information received from the various States.
The State-wise area liable to floods as assessed by RBA and the area considered
as flood prone by XI Plan Working Group is as below:-

assessment made by the Committee headed by Chairman, Ganga Flood Control
Commission (GFCC), 9 districts in Assam viz. Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Dhemaji,
Barpeta, Jorhat, Goalpara, Sibsagar and Nalbari are indentified as flood prone
districts in the North East Region(NER).
